you can buy it now without reservationThe game console is available with SSD for both models without reservation. Valve also announced the arrival of its docking station, sold for 99 euros.

Everything seems to be going well for Valve’s Steam Deck console. The manufacturer has announced that it has taken the lead in the delivery of reserved models and is gearing up. Now you can buy the console without having to pre-order it first.

However, a quick tour of the official website shows that this option is only valid for models with a 256 GB (549 euros) or 512 GB (679 euros) SSD. If you want the cheapest version (419 euros), with 64 GB of eMMC memory, you still have to go through the reservation phase (final from October to December 2022). For consoles without a reservation, Valve indicates an estimated delivery time of between one and two weeks.

Valve explains that the reservation system was originally created because of numerous supply chain disruptions and parts shortages. The supply and logistics problems seem to have been resolved, but the manufacturer explains on its site that reservation mode can be reactivated if necessary:

“Our production, processing and shipping capacity remains limited. If the order volume for a particular Steam Deck model grows faster than our on-time shipping capabilities, the expected delivery dates will become further and further away. From a certain point, reservation mode will be reactivated as we make up for the accumulated delay. »
The other novelty from the manufacturer is the docking station, which is finally on sale for 99 euros.

It features three USB Type-A 3.1 Gen 1 ports for connecting peripherals, a male USB Type-C connector for console connection, a USB Type-C port for power, and a Gigabit Ethernet connection. The station also allows you to connect up to two external displays thanks to the DiplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 outputs. It measures 117 × 29 × 50.5 mm and weighs about 120 grams. The Steam Deck console is therefore catching up with the Nintendo Switch in terms of docking station.

Finally, Valve has announced software updates that include improvements to the touchscreen’s responsiveness when typing text, improving the game mode without an internet connection, and providing more customization options when the console is docked.
