the DualSense Edge controller will be available on January 26, but it won’t be cheapSony’s new wireless controller for the PS5 is notable for its many customization options, but it is considerably more expensive than its equivalent from Microsoft.

PS5 gamers have been eagerly awaiting the announcement: the new DualSense Edge controller has a release date. Sony just announced that it will be available worldwide on January 26, with pre-orders starting on Tuesday, October 25. But one element will stick: the price. The new controller costs 239.99 euros. A very high price knowing that at the competition, in this case Microsoft, the Xbox Elite Series 2 is billed at 179.99 euros. Sony also indicated that the joysticks are replaceable and that the modules will cost 24.99 euros.

The controller takes the basics of the classic version, such as design and haptic feedback, but adds extensive customization elements.

It is thus possible to change the assignment of the buttons, the sensitivity of the joysticks and the reaction distance of the triggers. The latter is adjusted using two sliders on the back. You can use buttons on the back instead of the traditional keys (cross, square, circle and triangle). It is also possible to quickly switch between multiple control profiles.

In addition to the easy-to-replace sticks, Sony offers three different pairs of caps to adapt to your fingers and type of use. The rear buttons can also be changed, with the choice between two different types.

The manufacturer has also provided two function keys (Fn) at the base of the joysticks, reminiscent of those found on PCs. The controller comes with a carrying case and a USB Type-C cable. This has a small lockbox that prevents the plug from being accidentally unplugged during gameplay.

Chance on the calendar, Microsoft just announced that its Xbox Elite Series 2 controllers are arriving at the Xbox Design Lab.

This allows you to customize the colors of many elements of the controller: the body, the back, the triggers, the BMD cross, the joysticks (base, cap and ring), the ABXY buttons and the function keys. Basic personalization costs EUR 139.99, plus any engraving (up to 16 characters) for EUR 9.99. You can then add accessories such as the carry bag, a stick/BMD pack and a paddle pack. The complete set will cost you 199.99 euros and that is still cheaper than Sony’s new controller.
