Google is rolling out Immersive View to its Google Maps. This new feature allows you to explore the world around you by immersing yourself in immersive 3D renderings generated by AI.

Immersive viewing is here. Unveiled almost a year ago at the annual Google I/O conference, immersive 3D renderings are finally coming to Google Maps. Google had announced their deployment in early February, but these new 3D renderings were still desired. They are now accessible on Google Maps in several major cities. With this new feature, Google hopes to give you a uniquely immersive experience. Presented by the company Mountain View as “a new way to explore places”Immersive View makes a promise: to put you in the center of famous places that you can explore in a new way.

Photorealistic renderings generated by an AI

To provide these photo-realistic 3D renderings, Google relies on artificial intelligence. Indeed, the images served by Immersive View are generated by an AI whose job it has been to piece together the billions of Google Street View images, as well as the very many aerial images that Google has.

In addition to an immersive 3D view, the feature also provides access to uniquely staged information. Indeed, these immersive images can be contextualized to reflect reality depending on the time of day. By pressing the button Time and weather displayed on the immersive views, you can fly over famous places at different times of the day. Indeed, this mode gives you access to a cursor which, when modified, will allow you to navigate in time. Depending on the time and weather of the day, you can see famous places in the sun or in the rain, or even see a monument at sunrise or sunset.

At the beginning of February, Google had indicated that Immersive View would initially be available for the cities of London, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Tokyo. However, the company had indicated that the module would arrive in other major cities such as Amsterdam, Dublin, Florence or Venice in the coming months. It clearly seems that Google has taken a bit of a lead as it has already started rolling out the feature in all of these cities, as well as others.
