With the cooperation of Adana Metropolitan Municipality, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Istanbul Planning Agency; Earthquake Resistant Science-led City Panel organized under Adana Earthquake Action Plan Studies was held at Hilton SA.
In the panel where Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Mayor of Adana Metropolitan Municipality Zeydan Karalar gave the opening speeches, Prof. Dr. H. Tarık Şengül moderator, Prof. Dr. Alper İlki, Prof. Dr. Bahar Yetis, Prof. Dr. Baris Binici, Prof. Dr. Ebru Voyvoda, Prof. Dr. Kayihan Pala, Prof. Dr. Murat Seker, Prof. Dr. Naci Gorur, Prof. Dr. Süleyman Pambal made a presentation.
WE WILL BUILD EARTHQUAKE-PROOF CITIES
Adana Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar, who spoke at the opening, stated that the fact that Turkey is an earthquake-prone country should not be forgotten for a moment, therefore it is necessary to create earthquake-resistant cities. President Zeydan Karalar said, “Shortly after the earthquake, we stood at the head of the wreckage and were with our people with all our might. We have already started the fight against the destruction caused by the earthquakes that may occur in the coming period. Using Istanbul’s knowledge on this topic, we have taken action together with our scientists to create earthquake-resistant cities, under the guidance of science. The surveys conducted in Adana so far have identified about 950 heavily damaged and nearly 2,000 moderately damaged buildings. A step-by-step plan is drawn up for strengthening moderately damaged buildings. I would like to thank all the participants, especially our mayor of the metropolitan city of Istanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu, and our scientists, who supported us today. May God never show such pain again. “We will do everything we can to prevent our people from suffering from now on,” he said.
President Zeydan Karalar stated that Adana became a logistics city during the earthquake and about 500 planes landed at the airport and reiterated his call not to close Adana Airport.
